Ranch and agricultural properties have power needs that no residential-only generator company can properly size. Multiple well pumps, barn HVAC, livestock waterers, irrigation controls, walk-in coolers, feed mills, cold storage, welding equipment, workshop tools, outbuildings, gate openers, security systems — plus the main house. When PG&E cuts power for a 72-hour PSPS event, everything stops together.
Peak Power Systems specializes in whole-property Generac systems for ranches, horse properties, and agricultural operations across Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, and Sacramento counties. We work with both air-cooled Guardian units for smaller ranch homes and liquid-cooled Protector-series units for large-property whole-operation coverage. Every install is sized for the full property, not just the residence.
Problems We Solve
The specific power reliability challenges Sacramento Foothills homeowners face — and exactly how we address them.
Multiple wells and pumps
Two, three, or more well pumps with varying HP ratings each need startup surge capacity. Standard sizing fails.
Livestock water and ventilation
Cows, horses, and chickens can't wait through a 3-day power outage. Automatic backup is animal welfare essential.
Walk-in coolers and freezers
Ranch cold storage for meat, dairy, or produce fails within hours of outage. Continuous power protects inventory.
Irrigation controls
Automated irrigation timers, pumps, and valves fail together during outages. Long-term power loss stresses crops.
Workshop and welding loads
Ranches with metalworking, welding, or heavy tool loads need generator capacity plus proper transfer switch sizing.
Fire safety pumps
Foothill ranches need water pressure for defensible-space irrigation and firefighting during red-flag events.
Benefits
Whole-property sizing
We size for main house PLUS barn, PLUS pumps, PLUS cold storage — one generator covers everything.
Liquid-cooled options
Generac Protector-series units (25-60kW) for continuous heavy-load ranch operations.
Propane-ready
Most rural Sacramento Foothills ranches run on propane. Generac integrates seamlessly with existing tanks.
Extended runtime
1,000-gallon propane tanks support 7-14 days of continuous ranch-load operation during extended shutoffs.
Load management
Smart management modules cycle high-draw loads (welding, workshop) so a smaller generator handles the whole property.
Rural-experienced crews
We work every week in Placer, El Dorado, and Nevada counties. Rural permit processes, gravel driveways, long service runs — all routine.
Our Process
Free Consultation
On-site load calculation, gas and electrical assessment, and generator sizing — no charge, no pressure.
Fixed-Price Proposal

Load calculation for ranch properties
Standard residential load calculations don't work for ranches. We walk the entire property, inventory every pump (HP, depth, static water level, running vs. startup wattage), catalog barn HVAC and ventilation loads, note cold storage compressor sizes, list livestock waterer heater loads, identify irrigation controllers and pumps, and estimate simultaneous-use scenarios. The result is a Generac model spec'd for the worst-case ranch-wide startup — typically 26-48kW for medium ranches, 48-80kW liquid-cooled for large operations.
Air-cooled vs. liquid-cooled selection
Air-cooled Generac Guardian units (10-26kW) are best for smaller ranches, hobby farms, or properties where the main residence dominates the load. Liquid-cooled Protector-series units (25-60kW) are the right call for larger operations with heavy simultaneous loads, extended run requirements, or industrial-style workshop equipment. Liquid-cooled units cost more upfront but last longer under heavy continuous use and handle bigger sudden load swings.
Propane sizing for extended outages
Ranch generators typically run 40-70% average load during PSPS events — well pumps cycle, cold storage compressors cycle, HVAC responds to demand. On a 500-gallon propane tank, a 26kW Generac at 50% average load runs about 4-5 days. On a 1,000-gallon tank, 8-10 days. For high-risk fire-season properties, we typically recommend at least a 1,000-gallon tank as insurance against the rare 5+ day PSPS event.
